Summary:

While out late one night hunting deer, seventeen- year-old Eragon finds a strange stone that was seemingly dropped by a flash of mysterious blue light. Later the next night it hatches and reveals a baby dragon! As he reaches out to pet it, it gives him a scar-like mark on his palm, which was called in the ancient language a “gedwey ignasia.” He consults a villager named Brom, who seems to know about such things, and he and gives Eragon a sword called Zar'roc. As Eragon is away from home, the evil king Galbatorix's Ra'Zac kills his beloved Uncle Garrow! On a Quest to avenge him, he rescues the elf Arya from the fortress of the shade Durza, and has to go to the Varden where the people are rebelling against the King. Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have to overcome their personal demons in this epic tale of heroism, action and deceit.
